![]() Having already made horror-movie stars out of Bela “Dracula” Lugosi and Boris “Frankenstein’s Monster” Karloff, Universal decided: Why not pair these icons together for double the shrieks? Like its unofficial companion piece The Raven (1935), this inaugural team-up is based loosely - very loosely - on an Edgar Allan Poe work, and finds Lugosi accompanying newlyweds David Manners and Julie Bishop to a castle in Hungary, owned by his old “friend” Karloff. Image Credit: Abramorama/Everett Collection Even more chilling to modern audiences, however, is the dire ecological ending: The blob can be contained if Antarctica remains frozen and intact. Uh-oh. (So it’s a force that keeps spreading and consuming everything in its path? Hmm.). ![]() Similar to most 1950s movies, the air of the Cold War hangs heavy above this one. Despite their pleas to the town’s jaded adults, they aren’t believed until it’s too late. Then they see a comet streak across the sky, at which point the title “character” emerges to consume a man in front of them. ![]() A romping teen flick with beach movie vibes - there’s even a catchy theme song by Burt Bacharach and Mack David - it kicks off with Steve Andrews (a still very green Steve McQueen) and his girlfriend Jane (Aneta Corseaut) cruising the Pennsylvania countryside. Say that 101 times in a row, and you may just it make through this list… alive!ĭirector Irvin Yeaworth’s kitschy, low-budget creature feature about an amorphous, man-eating hunk of Jello from outer space is pure B-movie heaven. Just remember, as you read this list: It’s only a movie. So we’ve gathered all of the old-school monster movies and modern serial-killer thrillers, the creature features and the slasher flicks, the canon-worthy creepfests from Universal and Hammer and A24, and come up this definitive list (or our definitive list, at least) of the greatest the genre has to offer. Naturally, everyone who helped cobble together the 101 best horror films of all time like scary movies. If you can count on the movies for anything, it’s that there seems to be an exhaustible supply of scares. Then, just when you think it’s safe to go back to the theater, something else comes along that reminds us that there are always new ways to come us screaming in the dark. And over the past 100-plus years, the art form has figured out almost every possible way to frighten us, unnerve us, make our hair stand on us, chill us, thrill us and touch upon our most primal of fears. Of course you do! Freaking out with your fellow audience member when something shocking happens, or jolting together as one during a primo jump scare, is one of the great pleasures of going to the movies.

![]() Local chieftains were often the ones who could most ostentatiously display their status through goods. Schwartz wrote extensively on how the Melanesians had a great emphasis on demonstration of material wealth. Early publications made comparisons to children “playing house.” Theodore Schwartz and Peter Lawrence, two of the first anthropologists to study cargo cults, laid down what became the basic tenets of the cargo cult myth. Passage 2, Paragraph 3Īnthropologists and other Western observers first seeing this behavior, reacted with amused paternalism. Note: It’s actually pretty interesting how the Melanesian islands are pretending they’re in the military to try to get the airplanes back. They built mock airstrips in the jungle, began dressing in outfits designed to mimic soldiers’ uniforms, and even began parading around in imitation of military drills and formations. In response, tribesmen began performing religious rituals to bring the cargo back. To the Melanesians, only the gods could be powerful enough to bestow such amazing material wealth, so the soldiers were seen as priests who had some special power to please the gods and bring the cargo. Seeing large cargo planes dropping huge crates of supplies (often shared with the locals by the servicemen) created societal upheavals. The sudden contact with advanced industrialized society came as a shock to the Melanesians. Staging ground preparations in World War II saw an influx of Japanese and American soldiers into the islands. The Melanesian islands house groups of tribal peoples who, for thousands of years, had no contact with outsiders. ![]() And it’s important to recognize what it is that the author actually cares about. So we have these two parts of this Western imperialism and paternalism, which the author is not a fan of. Note: What the author cares about here is how this is related to the Western discourse on cargo cult. This myth represents an insidious form of Western imperialism with, at its roots, two pervasive facets of Western culture: materialism and paternalism. More important is the Western discourse that has grown up around cargo cults, which we shall simply call the cargo cult myth. Passage 2 (Questions 7-13)Ĭargo cult behaviors provide opportunity for cultural anthropologists examining millenarian legends. Then came another “never-better” performance from Luke Wrobel, who joked about the group now celebrating, “the 12th year of the never-ending storm of our insanity.” Elegantly framed by the lush drape of the crimson stage curtain, he went on to deliver a hauntingly mellow interpretation of Gordon Lightfoot’s classic, “If You Could Read My Mind.” The song was beautifully backed up with the perfect blending of Cay and Kristina. The embedded Google Calendar calendar block looks terrible. If auto-updates is something that you simply cannot compromise on, then the only option is the native Notion calendar. Unfortunately, even if you use a 2-way sync automation between Google Calendar and Notion, the changes will take up to 5 min to be reflected. So if you make a change after your teammate is already on the page, it won’t automatically show up in the calendar. If you choose to embed your calendar, changes made in Google Calendar will only reflect in Notion when a user reloads the page. The best workaround I have found is to embed with Indify. Yes, even your competitors and ex-girlfriend. Anybody will be able to do a Google search and find your public calendar. This can pose a security threat to you or your company. Your Google Calendar must be public (when using the direct embed method). But it can be a great option if you run a public calendar for a business like a yoga studio and want to share the event schedule inside your Notion one-page website. It may be a little frustrating to switch tabs because this is what you wanted to eliminate in the first place. If you need to add new events, you’ll have to go back to the Google Calendar app or website and add new events from there. You cannot edit the calendar from Notion. Depending on your goals, using the embed method can be good OR bad ( explore all 4 ways here). Much like everything else in life, embedding Google Calendar in Notion doesn’t come without limitations. Limitations of Embedding Google Calendar in Notion You can also add this sync block to a Notion database template. □️Pro Tip: Place the embed block into a sync block and use it across your Notion workspace. Now, let’s look at the 2 different ways to do this. So, embedding Google Calendar in Notion would let you enjoy the best of both worlds! On Notion, however, you would have to do this manually every time unless you set up a recurring meeting automation with external tools. You just need to set up a reminder ONE time and make it repeat every week. For example, think about your weekly team meetings. Google Calendar lets you create recurring events with just a few clicks. Google Calendar integrates with external calendars and lets you collaborate with others and even share calendars. Cross-calendar integration and collaboration. If you schedule events from Gmail, this feature is essential. Google lets you add events to your calendar right from your email inbox. Google Calendar has several important features that Notion does not. ![]() ![]() Technically, the Notion calendar is just a database with a calendar view. Why not use the Notion calendar itself? In this article, we will show you the 2 ways to embed Google Calendar in Notion.īefore diving into the exact how-to, we need to address an important question. Wouldn’t it be better if you could have everything in one place? No doubt about it! And one solution is to embed Google Calendar directly in Notion! So, you end up switching between Google Calendar and Notion throughout the meeting. ![]() However, there is one tiny problem… The weekly schedule is in your Google Calendar, while literally EVERYTHING else is in Notion.
